Back to the Green Turtle…

We left Marsh Harbour yesterday with a forecast of 3-4 days of strong northeasterly winds which would close the Whale Cay passage.  We hoped to stay between “the Whale” and Marsh Harbour for a few more days but we had to take the opportunity of the of the good weather.

The wind was dead at our stern for the first few hours and posed a challenge staying on our heading.  We tried the asymmetrical spinnaker for a while but by then the wind was clocking and gusting and that became another issue.  By 1100 the wind had settled down, we found a suitable heading and sailed for the next couple of hours all the way through the Whale and finally dropped the sails to motor back into the Abaco Sea and on to Green Turtle.

The slow going over the early part of the trip caused us to get to Black Sound at low tide and we barely squeaked in on some very thin water.  We were fortunate to get a mooring and will wait it out here for 2 days until the weak front passes and we can get going north again.  Green Turtle is a nice village, nice harbor, and fond memories as we spent New Years here with the boys.  A nice place to revisit on Mother’s day.

Mother's Day phone call...

Mother’s Day phone call…

Here’s Patricia taking a call from one of the boys, nice locale!  Thankfully we remembered the phone.  Patricia’s life is not all bliss.  The day prior I was giving a “dolphins” call–I am required to do dolphin watch 24/7, just one of my many duties from the Admiral.  The Admiral did her best to pry herself away from her Kindle and sauntered on deck and in the process caught her little “piggie” on some minor obstacle.

24hrs later…..

I told her to stop breaking my boat…..oh and I prefer the electric blue nail polish.

When we arrived we made lunch (well I made lunch, it was mother’s day) and then killed some time before the DDM.  We went ashore at the Leeward Club and got rough directions to the beach.  Short walk on a hot road but here’s the reward.

Should have explored this “panorama” feature on the camera sooner….my bad.  We stopped at the Leeward Club for frozen Pina Coladas on the way back.  Nice and refreshing then it was back to the Last Star for happy hour and sunset.

Same location, just different clouds and angles, probably a 30 minute time span.  Mini joined us up top for the views

Deep thoughts..... for a cat.
