Father’s Day Gift(s)

Father’s day gift(s)…..

Every year my birthday and Father’s day are in pretty close proximity on the calendar.  We also travelled a lot in early summer and would often find ourselves on the road for one if not both days; Father’s day being on a Sunday and heading home to go to work the next day.  This year was a bit different–for starters I don’t work at a conventional job on Mondays.  My son Alek does though!!  So our celebration was driven by someone else’s schedule.  We were in New Smyrna and Alek would drive over on Sunday to celebrate with his brother that they both have the world’s greatest dad–that’s me.

Now gifts in general were a challenge for two little boys growing up and needing two “ideas” so close together.  Not to mention the fact that I generally have everything I need and am not prone to buying or wanting frivolous stuff.  This year I only wanted to have both boys on the boat and that would be gift enough.  The entire year has been a gift.

Alek made it to us in time for Happy Hour before we went out to dinner.

We felt eating out would be cooler and nicer than squeezing around the cockpit table or going below for some sauna treatments courtesy of the “sunshine (rains all the f**kin time) state”.    Patricia got on the google-izer and found us a nice little restaurant called Cafe Verde in the Flagler District.  We piled in the dinghy

and got it secured at the nearby dock

Patricia felt a family photo was in order as it was a special day and we all had collared shirts on!!

We piled into the Honda Fit which is great on gas but a tight fit for all but it got us there in no time–beats walking.  The restaurant had some eclectic Hispanic cuisine that was leaning to organic and green.  We all had an amazing meal.  Patricia with fish tacos, I had Carne Asada with a nice sauce, Cole and Alek had chicken.  Of note was Alek’s side of Yucca Hash which was a fried concoction that was very nice.

The boys together for Father’s day during this tumultuous and vagabond year was very special, no better gift out there!
