Labor Day Weekend blow out…..

As the summer season winds down here in Carolina Beach everyone is trying to capitalize on the last days of fun and sun.  As Patricia pointed out in the last post there is a melancholy spirit in some beach towns as the month of August winds down and kids go back to school, college football starts taking up the Saturday airwaves etc.

We are also distracted by the prospect of packing up our belongings on Last Star and preparing to hand it over to the new owner this coming Saturday!!!  It will come fast.

But in the interim we took an evening off the boat to see the last of the fireworks here in Carolina Beach, we also strolled down the board walk one last time.

We were to meet Dirk and Nancy for fireworks before 9:00 PM.  They were eating at Hurricane Alley with Mike, Denise and Jen and would score some great seats right under the fireworks.  We were eating at the boat as there is still canned goods from the Bahamas to finish before we move on.  Stewed tomatoes and Spam are the bomb.

Arriving at the boardwalk we were treated to a puppet show to the tune of the B-52s “love shack” but after a moment it dawned on us this was a different rendering more appropriately called “God Shack” and a gospel version if you will.  Uhh…. OK.

After the shock of that little rendition wore off we were nearing the line for Britts Donuts. Now here they do one thing–donuts and do it well.  These are fresh hot and come in only one flavor–glazed.  People line up for over a 100 feet to get these (we come during the day, less line) and they are worth it.  The donuts, not the people in line though they can be quite the show too.

Line 'em up, move 'em out, rawhide!!!!

So we kept working south through the boardwalk and towards Hurricane Alley.  There we found our crew on the upper deck waiting for some tacos and sipping beers.  This seemed like a sound approach while waiting for the fireworks.

Now with all the thunderstorms and rain this summer there were 2-3 nights cancelled so there were extra fireworks for the evening.  Ran for over 30 minutes!!  Finale was a real noisy light show too.  My neck was hurting at the end.

After the video we were off to the board walk and rides as Jen wanted to ride some of the rides.

Happy Labor Day Weekend to you both. Fireworks, donuts, rides (hopefully no one lost their donuts), sounds like a good time. No labor for us today only because we’re both off on Mondays. We were going to fly to Las Vegas for the day, have lunch & place some football bets, but because it is a holiday, hello, the dang flights were full. Lost Wages will just have to wait. Phoenix got some thunder & a few drops of rain today, the best festivities a desert dweller can ask for. Love ya; enjoy your final days on your dream boat.
