So last week we had our last day on Last Star. We were sad of course to see that part of our adventure close but we knew it was inevitable. As a military family we had said goodbye to many homes, friends, neighborhoods etc so we know the next part of the equation is to “just move on”.
After a week of prep of moving boxes and stuff we had just a few things in our Enterprise RAC and the two cats so we set off north.
First stop was Goldsboro to visit our friend Mark and “the other” Patricia. We’ve known them since 1996 and always enjoyed their company and they were kind enough to give us a place to stop in and rest for the weekend. We took things easy and just started to try and assimilate back into houses that don’t rock, toilets that flush, and showers that have a continuous stream of water that WON’T run out. They have a huge and beautiful home and the cats were thrilled to have a large space upstairs to stretch out and run around. They were happy that nothing rocked, that not ALL surfaces were plastic or varnished wood (too slick) and that when they wrestled and pounced on one another they could get some traction.
The next day their son had a soccer match to attend and the weather was sunny and hot. We missed the bimini but the action was fast and furious–faster in the first half as the little guys were melting.
After the game we went back to the house to cool off and watch a little NFL action, yes it is Fall and the seasons are changing somewhere. Here it is still hot and the hurricanes are spinning up in the Atlantic–no longer worrying about that part.
